Anyone can replace a home interior door. No DIY experience needed!

As long as your door frame is in good condition, replacing your homes interior doors is easy. With just some simple tools you can replace any door inside your home.  With the help of Matt’s Door Shop, you can replace a broken bedroom door or give your home a complete refresh by changing the look of every door.  

STEP 1: Take your old door off its hinges

Remove your interior door by using a hammer and a screwdriver to remove the hinge pins (starting from the bottom and going up). Carefully tilt the door away from the frame and lift it from the hinges. Having two people can make this step easier and safer. One the door has been taken off its hinges, set it down and remove the hinges and door knob from the door slab. 

STEP 2: Bring it to Matt’s Building Materials

Bring your door slab to your closest Matt’s Building Materials (Pharr, San Benito, Palmview, or Harlingen). Talk to one of our sales associates at our door department and purchase a door you would like to use as a replacement.  Our door shop will use your old door to match the hinge & door handle placement on your new door. In 1-3 business days, your new door will be ready to be picked up or delivered!

STEP 3: Install your new interior door

To install your door, simply reverse the steps you took to remove your door. First install your door hardware (hinges & door knob), then carefully lift it into place. Screw the hinges back into the door frame using original screw holes.  Finally, you can use a hammer to tap the hinges into place.
